The murder of George Floyd and the subsequent creation of the We See You White American Theatre illuminated the deep-rooted prejudices and inequities in our society and the theatre industry. In response, the arts and culture sector made a long-overdue commitment to diversity, equity, social justice, and inclusivity initiatives.

The creation of Time’s Fool Company allowed us to build a theatre company from the ground up that was based on these initiatives. We believe in access for all, audience and artists alike. At Time’s Fool we work tirelessly to ensure our summer Shakespeare company is made up of artists who identify as being from the the global majority (at least 50%) and we encourage artists to work within their own idiolects. We un-gender roles to increase access for female identifying and non-binary performers.

We have also put into place many policies to increase access such as eliminating minimum donations for board membership, employing co-determination for the board, eliminating the 10/12 tech period, and rehearsing five days a week instead of six for caregivers. And everyone is paid equitably.

Additionally, I serve on the Wethersfield Social Justice Coalition and on the Access Committee for the Mid-America Theatre Conference.

Several times a year I engage in trainings involving equity, anti-racism, and access. The work is never done and it is up to us to ensure that we continue to strive to do better.
